Tutorial - Iced gems

When I was a little girl, I used to love these little biscuits, but I only found out what they're really called recently - iced gems! As I understand it, these biscuits were introduced to Southeast Asia by the British. Here's a bit of background on the biscuits.

Now here's my version of iced gems - in felt!

Ice gems

You can make iced gems from felt in 4 easy steps. Here’s what you’ll need:

1. A pair of embroidery scissors for precision cutting.
2. A sewing needle and cream-coloured sewing thread.
3. Brown and pink felt.
4. Polyfill.

Step 1: To make the “biscuit”, cut out 2 circles from brown felt (diameter 2.5 cm). Sew them together (I recommend using a blanket stitch), stuff with polyfill and sew to close.

Step 2: To make the “icing”, cut out 1 half circle from pink felt (diameter 3.2 cm). Fold it in two and sew the sides together to make a small cone.

Step 3: Gather the bottom of the “icing” together and stuff with polyfill. Sew 6 horizontal lines around it to add detail.

Step 4: Sew the icing to the biscuit and you’re done! Repeat the process to make light green, yellow and orange iced gems!
